Description

The third of four novels, this story follows Thein and his friends upon the road to Aweowne where the Loremasters of Lartoria now reside. After finally reaching the Lords' Table, the group discovers that the Loremasters have already departed the famed place of knowledge. As it is laid under seige, the party escapes with some soldiers and a few scattered lords and ladies, only to be pursued closely by the Udarians (the ghost soldiers of Eridach). As they reach the other realms, they come upon the terrible tidings that all may already be lost, as the cities of the allies have fallen under the sway of the Udarians. The shadow sorcerer's reach has grown and now the group must travel with all speed to the realm of Aweowne in order to gain the information they seek: what is to be done with the relic that they carry and can it be used against the enemy? When they finally reach the lands of the Loremasters, they are shocked to find that even more great cities have fallen under the tyranny of Ryaarth. In desperation, they join with a fey queen from the southern realms to fight against the mounting power of the enemy. In the ancient city of Karkoth, the group and the armies of the fey queen make their stand against the Orcan Hordes of Faergoth.
