Description

Denise Fabiano, a five-year-old girl, lives with her grandfather, Grandpa Joe, in an ancient farmhouse. Papa Joe is a storyteller and amuses Denise with his fabulous tales of fairies, gremlins, sorcerers and pirates. One stormy night Papa Joe tells her, "When there is thunder and lightning in the mountains with no rain, that means that Henry Hudson and his men are bowling. Just like it said in the story. Fairies and other odd folk also live in these woods. When you see tiny lights blinking on and off in the forest, those are fairies carrying lanterns." One day little Denise goes in the woods alone and meets the little people, who give her a charm to remember them by. As time goes by, Denise comes to believe that all that stuff about meeting fairies and dwarves was her childish imagination. When she is nineteen and in college, she meets Raven Lenore and joins her Wicca Coven where she becomes interested in witchcraft and magic. She takes the name of Morgaine, after the sorceress of the Arthurian legend, Morgan le Fay. When she graduates college, Papa Joe develops Alzheimer's. While taking care of him she meets a dwarf who takes her into the land of the fairies where they promise to make her a sorceress. The entrance to the University of Wizardry is in a painting at an art gallery in Woodstock. She enters the painting and learns magic from the spirits of such notables as Dr. Dee, Michael Scot, Theophilus, Peter of Abano, Nicholas Flannel, Robert Fludd, Count de Gebelin, Papus, Roger Bacon, Faust, Albertus Magnus, Edward Kelley, Parcelsus, Nostradamus, Cagliostro and Aleister Crowley. She learns alchemy, numerology, astrology, geomancy, necromancy, demonology (theurgy), Egyptian magic, magical laws, out-of-body, dream interpretation, conjuring, prophesy, witchcraft, occult philosophy, building a homunculus, and Tarot reading. She uses this knowledge to save the man she loves from a demon.
