Biography
Susan J. Hetrick grew up in Massachusetts and spent summers by the sea, but moved to the desert in 1982 to pursue her B.A. in English Literature at the University of Arizona. Since reading classic literature for class was often exhausting, she began dabbling in Stephen King novels as "junk food" for her brain. Susan married a bullrider and lived in a trailer on an ostrich ranch in west Texas for a time, then spent 7 years in Las Vegas working as a freelance art critic. Currently Susan lives in Scottsdale, Arizona, with her 2nd husband David, their four children, two dogs, and a cat. While she loves living in the desert she misses the ocean, so she and her husband go scuba diving as often as they can. She also loves the opera, ballet, painting, photography, and ice hockey. Susan earned her M.Div. in Counseling and Family Ministry from Phoenix Seminary while her family was blending, giving her the opportunity to test many of the concepts in her book. Earning her M.Div. required her to read a LOT of theology, so for a change of pace Susan began reading books about quantum physics. With more than fifteen years of experience as a mom and more than four years of experience as a stepmom, Susan has a unique understanding of the challenges facing Christian stepfamilies.
