    Biography

    Robert Hinson has been an educator in the public schools and colleges of North and South Carolina for over twenty years. He currently teaches English at Lancaster High School in Lancaster, South Carolina and is the sponsor of the school's poetry club, The Dead Poets' Society. He achieved five degrees from various academic institutions in both North and South Carolina and a Ph.D. in English from the Union Institute in Cincinnati, Ohio. He is a noted authority on Southern authors' image of black youth in adolescent literature and was awarded an honorary D.Litt. from Nova University for his research. He has been a Boston Globe and National Book Award nominee for young-adult fiction, a past winner of a national play contest, and he was nominated for a 2001 Pulitzer Prize for his book Its Name Was Enza. He is co-founder of The Writers' Workshop of Asheville, one of the largest member writing organizations in the USA. He has written one award-winning play, three books of poetry, numerous short stories and sixteen books including Cat Tails: Indian Trail's Feline Pilgrimage, Of Fairfield Plantation, and Riddle from the Creek House Ghost.     Inspiration

    I was inspired and influenced by the classics as a child, especially the writings of Jules Verne and H.G. Wells.
