Biography
Thanks for checking out my Nothing Binding page. I know I'm supposed to write this in 3rd person and pretend I'm some big shot author but I thought I'd do something a little different. My name is Lisa Adcock and in 2010 I re-booted my fiction career with what eventually became my first finished work of fiction in more than 20 years--the novel Blacke Harbor. Blacke Harbor was published in the summer of 2011 and was followed a couple of months later by my sophomore novel, A Better Class of Angels. In 2012 a sequel, West of the Enchanted Forest, was published. I'm currently working on a fantasy/adventure series about a eugenics war and living in the beautiful Cypress Bayou area of Central Arkansas.
Inspiration
Like most writers I was an avid--or maybe "rabid"--reader as a kid. The first books I remember really loving were the old 60s-era Nancy Drew books. I knew, even at 8 or 9 years old that they weren't very good and I remember finishing one when I was about 11 and thinking, "I could write this," but I loved them anyway. In high school I discovered Hawthorne and Poe. I loved them both, despite the ocean of difference between them. Poe, especially, spoke to me. My grandmother, who taught special-needs reading for 45 years, introduced me to C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and Oscar Wilde. (I still love Oscar Wilde.) As a young adult I discovered mystery/crime by Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler and, more recently, Michael Connelly and James Patterson. Nancy Drew to Oscar Wilde to Dashiell Hammett . . . how's that for variety?
