Inspiration
Under the category of inspiration, it all begins with my aunt, Mary Decker Osborne. She is responsible for sparking an interest in me that has, time and again, kept me from taking a disposable razor to my wrists. Okay, don’t oversell it, drama queen. Some sort of peculiar alchemy took hold as I clutched the unbound pages of one of her early manuscripts because at eleven years old I instantly knew: This is what I want to be. That stack of paper containing thousands of words she’d banged out on her Smith Corona whispered in my ear—a secret I’ve been trying to decipher ever since—though to this day I cannot remember a single sentence of the book. I only remember marveling at the weight of that unbound manuscript and knowing something about myself I hadn’t known moments earlier.
