Told from his point of view, “As I Am” explores Archie’s emerging sexuality, secret crushes, sexual mishaps, heartaches, tragedy, independence, friendship and ultimately love and acceptance of self.
It wasn’t that Archie Ren wanted to be a woman, he simply had no choice. Since birth he has lived with two genders, the masculine half seemingly the most dominant. At 13, everything starts to change both physically and emotionally. By 18, he leaves his hometown of Miami to explore his sexuality freely. But when he is beaten in a hate crime, Archie is rescued and cared for by his new friend and love interest, David Battaglia. Now in his 20’s, the handsome, articulate and happily married Archie has it all. His husband, David now knows the truth about his dual sexuality and accepts him just the same. He is even blessed with a baby boy. But when tragedy strikes, he is forced into a bitter legal battle. Thrown out of his house with little more than the clothes on his back, Archie must struggle to survive, for his sake and his son’s.
