Description

In the fog of suffering, it is sometimes difficult for people to recognize when God is helping them and providing for their needs. When our family faced three major health disasters, we experienced fear, uncertainty, and hopelessness. However, when we made an effort to see God’s involvement, we were reminded that he was in control, as we saw him orchestrate events to carry us through the valley. Through descriptive examples of God’s presence throughout our own story and correlation to similar stories from the Bible, Held by God demonstrates his history of faithfulness, encouraging the reader that his promises are real. The book is organized into three sections. Recognizing God’s Provision - A Legacy of Faith describes our family background steeped in faithful believers who taught us how to recognize and remember God’s provisions. Interesting stories about a childhood rescue, a period of reassurance and a miraculous adoption, provide strong examples of God’s overt involvement in our lives. Additional stories about a child kept safe from drowning, a twenty-year-old answered prayer, and a life-altering call to salvation are described, further illustrating God’s provisions in the lives of other believers. Relying on God’s Provision - When Life Get’s Overwhelming details our medical adventures through catamenial pneumothorax (CPT), a rare form of endometriosis which causes the lung to collapse during menses. As twins, we experienced the condition nearly simultaneously, resulting in a medical maze of chest tubes, thoracic surgeries, pleurodesis, and hysterectomies. While we struggled, God reminded us that we were not alone as he intervened in obvious ways. From a specialist referral that left us astounded, to surprise VIP seating at the Women of Faith Conference, God showed up in ways we didn’t expect. Our journey culminated in the launch of a CPT web site allowing us to minister to others. This section also candidly illustrates our mom’s battle with cancer. With vivid descriptions from a caretaker’s perspective, we travel the cancer road through diagnosis, treatment, financial concerns, and the readjustment of life that accompanies a cancer diagnosis. We detail how God provided for our needs, some provisions arranged five years before Mom was diagnosed. In her final moments, God graciously opened her eyes from a coma, giving us one last chance to say goodbye as he gently led her home. Resting in God’s Provision - Life is Hard, but God is Faithful addresses issues of grief and confronts some of the difficult questions that arise during times of suffering. Reassuring references to Biblical answers are provided, further reiterating that while we may not know why we suffer, we do know that God’s plan is ultimately for our good. He uses all circumstances to draw us to himself and our pain is not wasted. We revisit the Mark 5 woman, recap God’s provisions in our story, and offer the reader the hope that we have in Christ. Biblical references describe God’s great love for mankind, and detail his greatest provision of all, the way back home through Jesus Christ.
