The first book of a trilogy presenting the saga of two families on an enthralling odyssey across four continents, spanning several generations and 150 years.
The economic tremors that shook Europe in the latter half of the nineteenth century caused great social upheavals. This resulted in the emigration of large numbers of people, like currents of humanity, toward other parts of the world. One major current left western Europe and headed for the great open spaces of South America. They settled mostly in Argentina and Chile, but in time, a portion of them felt compelled to continue north. Subsequent generations reached Central America, Mexico and the United States. This trilogy of novels follows two families swept up in this particular current as they encounter new worlds filled with opportunities as well as rejection and danger. Their experience takes them to the heights of joy as well as the depths of misery and disappointment of loss. Against a backdrop of lush rain forests, parched, arid plains and fog-shrouded mountains they must deal with the passions of love and the grief of tragedy, yet they continue always in their search of a place where they can again truly feel at home. A place they find only when a new generation closes the cycle, as if by the power of destiny, and returns to the 'Old World'; the place their ancestors left 150 years before. This first book covers the first half of the 20th century. The second book will be its prequel.
