“One of the things that makes BODIAN such a compelling eco-thriller is the underlying message. The earth is our home. If the environment turns against us, there's no safe place.”
The Bodian was squatting down. His body was partially hidden by a dark, heavy cloak. I noticed his hands first, long, bony, twitching fingers dripping with serum, sharp flesh-caked claws. Its lower jaw hung freely, slack with greed, enabling it to swallow massive chunks of tendons and muscle. Realization dawned upon me: the Bodian was feeding. Each time he gulped, the loose flesh of his neck jiggled, as he swallowed down a bloody mass of flesh. He crunched down on the spine and then swallowed the whole head with one greedy gulp. His neck muscles strained and bloated, like a croaking bullfrog, as the sphere struggled to slide down his gullet. He swallowed once, twice, and even a third time—choking momentarily on the child’s head.
