As you all know by now, NB goes public tomorrow-I believe things will start to happen here. I know it is frustrating not being able to follow conversations like in yahoo groups. To get the gist of a conversation you have to go to your own page and then go to the group-I have brought this up to Ben and he is aware of the issue-Perhaps they can add a forum that is more interactive.
I am also a small press author-but keep in mind the ultimate goal is to connect to readers and bookstores but I believe in NB and know it will evolve into something bigger-The greater the numbers the more important the group will be so hang in there and invite your friends.
I have tried responding to the emais
s I get from groups-do you, as individuals, get those responses? Just curious.

Oh, I hope I hope I hope Ben can figure out a way to make the forums more interactive. Right now, I need a much better memory than I have to respond to posts. :/ And it's a pain in the patootie to have to keep changing subject lines in a thread.
So, do we know what happens tomorrow?

I receive all posts as individual emails addressed to me.
I'm glad you mentioned book fairs/festivals, and I hope Frankfurt will be a great success for you. I was about to suggest that people investigate some of these. I recently joined an organization and found out through their website about the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville in October. It's a 500-mile drive one way for me, but unlike Chicago and Atlanta, participating authors are not expected to give away a minimum of 100 books (or any, for that matter--a half-witted idea for those of us who would have to BUY those books). So I've reserved my signing spot, and I'm headin' for Nashville.

Philip,
Responding to your last line first, I'm suddenly getting
copies of messages posted and exchanged. Not sure why there was a long silence—and now a fair amount of activity.
Echoing what others have said, I'm inclined to use an analogy from my aerospace days: NB seems to be a potentially powerful missile under construction that is in dire need of an effective guidance system. But, you said two words that caught my eye, "and bookstores". Isn't that
really a major (and essential) component among the NB goals?
While waiting for something to happen, and, from years back, no stranger to marketing, I've forged ahead with newspaper and radio interviews, book signings, solicitation letters and promo materials to major channels, and, among other endeavors, signing up to be a part of the Frankfurt Book Fair coming up on 10 October. That we live fairly close by makes that possible.
I, for one, hope that going public will lead to bigger and better things. With three books in print, another with the publisher, and a fifth started, I can use help just like everyone else who's self-published.
Carry on,

I get the messages if I'm signed up for the group. No problem.
