Writers are so caught up in themselves they have no time to stop and smell the roses....
poor souls.
I hope one day you realize what you are truly after.
untill then, keep on pushing.
And dont forget that you dont have time to be reading this, you are too busy with... yourself...(aka nothing)

I created a social network for freelance writers on ning, I do book reviews for people that have asked in the groups I belong to, I created a crit group at yahoo groups, I volunteer as a copy editor for T-Zero Quarterly, an e-zine of Writers' Village University (WVU), I facilitate course there, I created a course there, co-founded a Creative Writing Workshop at WVU.
I am writing a book about freelance writing and will be a presenter at Teh Muse Online Writers' Conference in October of 2009.
I don't have time to help others, NOT!
I believe in paying it forward.

I make time in my day for writing, like any work day and when I am done, it is time for the family and enjoyng life. I have many hobbies and being outdoors is one of them (of curse winter n MN leaves one's options limited, but spring, summer fall is another story). ;^D
Mahalo.
Go to www.wizardsofwords.org and view the message board. (It's free.) There you'll see dozens of helpful posts under Right-on writing. Also I lecture at conferences about creative writing. So far I pay my own expenses and charge those conducting the conference nothing.
Also, I maintain a blog for creative writers and readers on MySpace. I discuss creative writing, do reviews for other authors, and post those done for me.
I make myself available for young writers who are just starting on their career path and do my best to help them along the way.
Since the originator made an obvious generalization, I'd like to know what pro-bono efforts he made for the benefit of others.
All the best,
David
...if 'Jesse' had a girlfriend who was a writer and had no time for him... I would be angst-filled too...
What did you say? I was busy being self indulgent. LOL "just kidding."
I proved you wrong too, well other then a little humor at first that is.
1952 "old fart."

For me writing has become my Paxil, it helps me unwind, lets the stress of the day slide off my back. Some days the stress feels like a bag of bricks. It's nice to be able just to set it down from time to time. Writing keeps me sane in an insane world.

I have time to go enjoy nature, garden, do my other hobbies, and associate with people. Writing is just my favorite and I have been doing that ever since I was a teenager. As a teenager, I had to channel my imagination and I was not one of the popular kids, so I had a lonely high school career. People were just mean and didn't invite me over to parties or over to hang out--it wasn't chosen. I was stigmatized as one of the 'smart people' so I guess I wasn't interesting--I don't know. Writing helped me cope and kept me happy and focused when I wasn't at band practice or doing homework or doing something with family.
I can relate to high school days, the Jocks and cheerleaders, were the worse. It was all about them. Or at least they thought it was. Snobs most of them, or bullies, the type that brought about the columbine shootings. Back in my day we just had to put up with it. Now days sadly some kids just bring guns to school and then tragedy strikes. All because of kids treating other students like crap. Kids now days can only take so much and then something inside just snaps. It's sad that things have gotten that bad. But sadly some things, or people will never change. The bullies are still out there today but now mostly on face book, or my space, destroying kids lives with words of hatred, unaware of the damage they're causing. To them it's just getting their kicks. To their victims it's heartbreaking and humiliating. Just a damn shame, my son went through that hell at school, he was sort of into goth, wore black all the time, he did not fit in with the in crowd so to speak." And the school officials the worse, as far as showing any kind of support. He's senior year we finally just let him finish out the year home schooling. But he graduated and received his diploma. Very proud of him. The Richie kids as we called them were the worse, spoiled little brats having everything handed to them on a silver platter by their parents, who were also stuck up and conceited. Sadly that's where their kids got it from.

I usually don't have a problem with writers being introverts, because most natural writers wrote in the first place to speak to their own thoughts they couldn't with speech (plus that would just be weird). I do have problems went writers act like douches, however. They can be worse than Broadway actors.
