A couple of us self-published writers are organizing an initiative where we collaborate on a marketing program to get the word out about our books. There's no cost, we just organize by author and genre and a display page about your book is placed in the back of someone else's and vice versa.
It's a new idea I've developed after reading many posts of folks not happy with their current sales.
