non-indies? (a re-post)

non-indies? (a re-post)

Yikes, I can't read the comments attached to the group posts, so I'm going to repost this again and hope Gemma can tell me what the #&* I did wrong.
here's basically what I wrote:

I joined this site because I like its look and layout etc. But my past work and my future goals are not with independents--I've been NYC published and that's where I want to be again. (It's all about the money, I'm afraid, which might be a disqualifier.)

That okay-- or do you feel like it's not the focus of the site? I'm unconcerned with pecking order, status (unless it sells books) etc. I try to ignore the fact that bookselling is a zero sum game.

I wouldn't feel at all bad if you tell me POLITELY to go away. I've been doing this long enough that polite rejection of any sort really doesn't bother me. I'd even understand why you'd want peeps like me to go somewhere else.

Well, let me put it this way: I found one of your posts on the site. LOL

Hmmmmm

I think I get it.
Comments show up via EMAIL and aren't on the site, right? Maybe?

Welcome Kate

Kate, believe me when I tell you I'm as bewildered as you. I'm used to Yahoo groups and haven't figured out whether there's a way to reply directly to a post or where they go or anything. LOL
Anyway, I for one would not want you to go away. There is entirely too much exclusivity in this business as it is, and I'm not about to perpetrate any more. In addition, I would welcome your perspective, and I'm glad to have you on board.

Non-Indies are people too

Non-Indies are people too. At least I like to think so.

I'm a non-indie and a non-vanity/indie publisher to boot. Got hornswoggled into the eBook business (people laugh at you when you get into a business dominated by big outfits like Amazon). But I'm having the time of my life doing what I love to do.

All of our authors are by definition "non-indie" and we like them.

So, Kate, I don't think you should be discriminated against. Jerry set this thing up to help all authors (granted with an eye towards indies). Anyone who publishes a book, unless you're someone special, has to do most of the marketing and Jerry has kindly set up one way to promote your work as well as a place to get information on the business of writing and selling your work.
