    Biography

Witt Wittmann, a recipient of the James A. Rodgers Creative Writing Award, was born and reared in Lake City, South Carolina. She attended the University of South Carolina and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Secondary Education. Witt Wittmann retired in 2006 from thirty years of teaching English in the public school system. She is now the editor for a small publishing company, the poetry director for SplashHall Poetry Community Boards, and co-editor for Rollin' Thunder Poetry Blog. She is an accomplished artist and an award-winning writer. Her art of tatting, a form of lace, has won numerous awards and is exhibited at the South Carolina Artisan Center as well as The Pickens County Museum. Her tatted treasures have traveled throughout the state of South Carolina and have been on display in Waxhaw, North Carolina. Wittmann won the NPAC Gold Medal Award for her poem "New Broom" and "His Jacket" won the IBPC in 2007. Her poems have been featured in Flutter, an online poetry magazine. Some of her poems and an essay are found on the Famous Poets and Poems.Com web site. She has been published in the International Old Lacers magazine, The Bulletin, in addition to having three books published: TatWitt: What I Learned When I Learned to Tat (Union County Writers Press, 2002); Musing at La Poulaille (D-N P, 2003); Echoes of Memories (D-N P, 2007). TatWitt is an inspirational book with essays and poetry to motivate people to pursue their love for the arts. Musing at La Poulaille is a humorous collection of poems delving into the extraordinary world of chickens. Echoes of Memories is a book of poems about life in a small rural town. Wittmann illustrated the books The Prince with the Golden Hair by Irene Honeycutt (D-N P, 2006); The Last Hurrah by Robert W. Hinson (D-N P, 2005); edited and contributed to Indian Trail: The First Hundred Years (Walsworth Publishing Co., 2007); and Cat Tails: Nine Lives: Nine Tales (D-N P, 2006); and Mr. Fiddlededee by Dr. Bob/Robert Hinson (D-N P,2007). Wittmann was once a guest on The Pride of Indian Trail television program and interviewed by the gregarious host, John Schilling. Wittmann was honored with the title of Indian Trail's Centennial Poet by the 2007 Centennial Committee of Indian Trail, NC. Now that she has retired, Wittmann can devote her time to the things that she loves best: art, tatting, and writing, not to mention gardening and chickens.

    Inspiration

I was inspired to write in the beginning by our first flock of chickens and encouraged to continue by my husband. The writing snowballed after meeting so many friends and poets through SplashHall Poetry Community Boards. Now, my goal is to inspire other writers and to help them to achieve their goals. I am inspired everyday through the beauty of nature to write; either a poem, a witticism, or at least a letter to a friend. My motto is Take Time.
