Taking a look at the broad canvas of history and the choices which fell upon the shoulders of its great protagonists is very healthy for one’s sense of perspective.

Biography

I was born in 1978 in Horsham, Sussex, UK. I have a degree in Genetics from Cardiff University. Following graduation I moved to Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire and spent ten years working for the Forensic Science Service in DNA and Sexual Offences. I have always enjoyed writing for my own pleasure and for the amusement of friends and family and have also always had a great love of history. In 2007 I decided to combine the two and began writing my first book 'The Battles are the Best Bits.' Having recently published my first book I am now looking for a new writing challenge and have started work on a novel.

Inspiration

It all started with a film called Gladiator! I enjoyed the film so much that I decided that I was going to have to find out more about ancient history. Seven years later, having absorbed so much information I had to let it all out again or my head would have burst. The blinding flash of inspiration which set me off writing was AJ Jacobs' book The Know it All in which he describes the experience of attempting to read and digest the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica within the course of a single year. This planted the idea in my mind of being able to write an account of my own quest for knowledge and share the experience.
