Biography
As the middle child of eleven, I was the only one who was horse crazy. I mucked stalls and babysat to save money for riding lessons and a horse. When I was 21, I reached my goal to own a stable. My husband, Bob, and I ran Unicorn Stables with about 40 horses for 25 years in Maryland and then Pennsylvania. I loved sharing my passion with others, especially with children. When a special mare named Fawn died, I decided to write her story. I knew I needed help with my writing and joined the Institute of Children's Literature. My final assignment became my first published book, "The Delmarva Conspiracy," published by Greene Bark Press. I continued learning about the writing process by working as a freelance journalist for local newspapers and equine publications. I continued caring for my herd and teaching riding lessons, and even became the Riding Director at a NEPA summer camp for 12 years. When we decided to close our stable so we could travel south for the winters in our large RV, I continued writing adventure & mystery stories for middle grade and young adult readers. I also began the "Beloved Horses" series, and as we traveled, I marketed these collections of true horse stories to the equine industry - shops, horse shows, expos etc. "Beloved School Horses" describes the wonderful horses and ponies that I had in my stable and how the students blossomed when riding them. "Beloved Horses From Around the Country" features horses that help humans in a variety of ways - handicapped riding programs, police work etc. "Beloved Sport Horses" includes horses ridden in different type of competitions and the special bond their riders had with them. I still haven't completed Fawn's book, but am currently working on a Learn To Read book called "Woogie's Travels." It features photographs of our Irish Terrier! I now share my passion of writing by conducting writing workshops at schools and libraries. But I'm never far from horses either!
