Inspiration
I remembered being surprised when the first few editions of my annual Christmas letter were met with high praise from family and friends. I told the first few people to stop kissing up because I had already purchased their Christmas present, but after the 5th person said "You should write a book," I decided to give it a go. I had a similar reaction on the school blacktop many days when all of us moms would be standing outside the classroom doors chatting while waiting for the bell to ring, griping about This, That, and The Other (otherwise known as our children, spouses, and pets). I noticed that my comments seemed to send the ladies into giggle fits or left them saying "Exactly!" It was then that I believed I had a voice that could resonate with women who were experiencing the same struggles raising their children while still trying to save some of their energy for themselves and their marriage. I certainly haven't gotten rich with my writing, but I do get so much joy when women in my community read my column and take the time to walk up to me to say that I describe their reality better than they can, and that I always leave them with a smile. It doesn't get any better than that.... okay, I'm lying. If a girl can dream, I'll take all that AND a beefy advance for the next NY Times Best Selling Hardcover Non-fiction book.
