Ronald James Mendricks
I write with gusto about whichever topic I tackle, mostly fiction. Few find my work appealing. I wonder why I keep writing. I do, though.

    Look and Listen

    Biography

Neither one of my parents should ever have been allowed to breed. Certainly, not to parent. They were clueless. Mother is/was a sadist. She raised me to be a big, fat, generally unhappy person. She wanted me to be an outcast by society so she could have me all to herself. Dad dealt with her passive-aggressiveness by getting drunk and ranting. My childhood was not pleasant. The rules changed constantly. It was very hard to get my bearings. I cried daily as a child because mom thought hitting me was hilarious. I get angry now; don't cry much. Sometimes I wish I could cry. Can't, though.

    Inspiration

My urge to put something down in writing was made stronger by writers like Bradbury, Heinlein, and Ellison. They got hold of my imagination then, and still hold onto some of it. When left to myself, what I write tends toward the perverse. I have an ear and a healthy respect for dialogue as a tool to tell a story. There's a music to it. If you listen for it. I stand outside of society, yearning to get in. The sentinels are vigilant, but still I try.
