Biography

Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, I now live close to the ocean in Nova Scotia, Canada. I served as a member of the Canadian Forces for six years, and so there is an underlying love and respect for members of the military that continues to wind its way through my life. A full-time professional writer and speaker, I try to bring together my experience and a Ph.D. in career development to life’s most pressing issues, without becoming stuffy and dry. These days I try to interrupt working by taking regular walks on a nearby beach, cooking with and for my friends and family (I am a foodie) and by sometimes, completely selfishly, doing nothing.

Inspiration

I most enjoy the fact that words and stories wind their way into people's hearts, and that I find inspiring. We may not remember what we ate for dinner a month ago (at least I sure don't!), but we can remember and even quote a favourite book forever. Years ago I was working with a young boy who struggled terribly when it came to reading. He had a learning disability and looking at those jumbled letters on a page made no sense to him at all. When we finally stumbled on the right topic for him - mysteries where he could choose his own ending - he not only became a reader, he also began to write.
