Biography
Matthew Boedy is a 29-year-old author who lives in Columbia, S.C. He was born in Shreveport, La. He grew up in Augusta, Ga., and attended the University of Florida where he majored in journalism. In 2000 he was awarded second place for spot news in the Hearst Awards for his work for the St. Petersburg Times. In 2005 he was awarded honorable mention in the Florida Freelance Writers Association’s annual contest for his short story “The G.I.’s Bill.’’ He was named a finalist in the 2008 Tonka Fiction Contest sponsored by the Minnetonka Review. He has been published in online publications Slow Trains, Relevant and Infuze. He worked as a journalist at The Augusta Chronicle from July 2001 to March 2003. He covered local crime and politics and often uses his experiences from journalism in his novels. He worked as a high school English teacher in the Augusta area from August 2003 to May 2007. He is currently a graduate assistant at the University of South Carolina with plans to earn his master’s degree in fiction in 2010. He is set to marry on December 20, 2008.
Inspiration
I often are inspired by weird news, landmarks on my drives to and fro, and people I see at grocery stores, hair salons, and along highways.
