    Biography

When I was 4 years old my mother lay in a hospital bed, dying from leukemia. Later, at the funeral, I toddled up with my little sister to look at the body lying in the casket. I couldn't figure out why mom didn't get up and give me a hug! Incessant questions to my father and the rest of the family produced no satisfactory answers for me. One thing I did understand. Looking at the body before and after her death, I realized that the body was not the essence of a human being. Even at the tender age of 4, I recognized that there must be an energy which occupied the body, then, at death, left it. When that animating principle departed, only a physical husk remained. I have never forgotten that experience, and have been conducting my own personal investigation into the Big Picture (and the little ones as well) ever since. In this spirit, Kenneth J. M. MacLean has written 6 books and dozens of essays.

    Inspiration

My inspiration to write and research consciousness, spirituality and science came from my dear mother. After she died, my father started drinking heavily and I was raised by my grandparents, who lived through the Great Depression of 1929-1932. Gram and Gramps were wonderful people, but they had a very restricted view of life. I have always wondered what my life would have been like had my mother lived and how that would have shaped my personal world view. My father was a policeman who believed in flag, country, and the Catholic Church (and little else). These circumstances motivated me to break out of the family mold and think for myself. I am inspired mainly by music and the personal certainty of life after death. I love jazz, bluegrass, and classical. When I write, music is almost always playing. I find that music sets a mood and helps to organize my thoughts. Knowledge of one's inherent spiritual nature makes living life a lot easier. Such knowledge gives you a feeling of power. You can't be fooled or manipulated. This certainty allows you to have a much broader viewpoint and makes you more compassionate. My favorite saying: "True love is empowering people to see their greater potential." That's what my work is all about.
