Biography
Attorney/Author/Artist is the best way to describe me. I should also add Audi Driver, because my eight cylinder S4 is part of the pleasure of every day. I gave up on the court nonsense a few years ago---spending time with people who eat nails for breakfast is not a healthy way to live. I'm now accepting mediation cases exclusively, writing more Emma Carbury novels, painting watercolor landscapes (I'm a signature member of the Connecticut Watercolor Society), rowing my racing shell, and of course, riding my beloved mare. The most important people in my life are my Irish Sport Horse, Joy, and Emma, who is a Lakeland Terrier. We like open spaces and lots of trees, so I moved up to the Northwest hills of Connecticut last year, and we love it. After the pushing, grasping, mow you down corporate atmosphere of Fairfield County, Litchfield feels like heaven.
Inspiration
Lawyers hear a lot of stories! Some are silly, or even outrageous, but most of the time the situation is just sad, because the problem could have been easily avoided with a little proper advice. In 2008 I founded the Professional Women's Alliance of Connecticut, pwa-ct.com, a group that was formed to educate and empower women who are going through major life transitions such as divorce, family challenges, career changes, retirement, and widowhood. There are many articles (eight are mine) and helpful links posted on the PWA-CT site, and the topics range from law and mediation, finance, insurance, assistance with medical bills, mortgages, mental health, and even energy healing. We also have a page dedicated to survivors of incest and sexual abuse. After that, I started writing books! My novels, Stay Balanced! and Eyes Up, Heels Down teach the public to avoid the usual traps: litigation, narcissistic partners, giving up financial power, and medicating rather than dealing with an issue. The stories are often humorous, but they also delve into deeper, fraught topics like economic abuse within marriages, bullying, and incest. My goal is to empower my readers to keep their own counsel, analyze carefully what they have heard, and above all, to go with their gut instincts. After more than twenty years of hearing the same stories from clients, over and over, I am glad to have this opportunity to sound a wake up call about a system that in my opinion, no longer works.
