I used to be a design engineer. Now I'm a 3rd grade math teacher. Conference calls have been replaced with parent conferences.
Biography
I was born just outside of Washington, DC on a night that saw a storm filled with both lightning AND snow. In fact, that very night, my great-grandmother's television set was struck by lightning. With an entry on the scene like THAT, how could I NOT be meant for greatness? I attended private school for most of my life, choosing a mechanical engineering career path. I received a BSE from Duke University, then I followed that with a master's degree from Texas A&M. I used these degrees in my engineering job for the next four years. Unfortunately, the market turned sour in 2001, and I was laid off. I decided to reinvent myself as a teacher, and I went the public school route. Suffice it to say, it was one heck of an eye-opening experience.
Inspiration
My inspiration to write Learn Me Good came from all of the insane things that happened during my first year as a teacher. I just finished my fifth year of teaching, and things have not gotten a lot saner. So there might just be a sequel in the near future.
