Look and Listen
Biography
I am a left-handed ex-jarhead who started learning what it takes to be a leader as a Sergeant in the Marine Corps at age 19. Luckily no one got killed. I made most of the mistakes a new leader can make. Been studying leadership ever since. Married, three great kids and a wife who has put up with my people watching every time we go anywhere, when I should have been paying attention to her. Spent 40 years in management in natural resouces and manufacturing. Almost all of that time in a human resource management role. I tend to be a little too candid, too short-tempered with those who get into a leadership role, but never become one.
Inspiration
After a career spent watching people either become "Class Act" leaders and or fail in the attempt,I decided to write about them. For years, either in management or teaching at the college level as an adjunct instructor, I have tried to teach what it takes to be a leader. Finally, I put all those "case histories" into a book along with my personal thoughts about what it takes to be a real leader. Leaders who do not realize that the image they show the world will determine their destiny are going to fail. Leaders who do not have a plan to succeed are going to fail. Leaders who who do not ascribe to a strict sense of ethics are going to fail. I'll keep writing about them!
