Freelance writer and author of The Veggie Queen: Vegetables Get the Royal Treatment cookbook, I take readers on a vegetable adventure, sharing expertise as a Registered Dietitian, chef and educator.
Biography
Some of my first photos show me "reading" the dictionary when I was about a year old. While I don't remember when I actually began reading, I do know that shortly thereafter I began writing and I have been doing it ever since. I grew up in New York and food was a family affair. When I was a teenager I became interested in nutrition and began self-study. I went off to college and got a degree in business and then followed up with a Master's Degree in Nutrition and Dietetics. I have been sharing my knowledge and enthusiasm about food and cooking ever since. I do yoga as a practice to keep me grounded and as a connection to the earth and its inhabitants. You'll often find me foraging for wild and cultivated fruits, vegetables and mushrooms, and then cooking them in some way.
Inspiration
Writing has always been my major form of commuunicating, especially so when I was a shy child. Once I found my voice in the world, as a teenager, I continued to write and found that I had a natural ability to do so. My book grew out of many years of teaching cooking and my students continously asking me for my recipes. I talked about doing the book for a few years before I sat down to write. I am currently at work on my 2nd cookbook, as yet untitled, about pressure cooking. I feel that my writing helps define me and invites people into my world. I am inspired by nature and what she offers and hope to inspire others with my words (and deeds).
