Inspiration
Writing The Skin I'm In was one of the most difficult tasks I have ever set out to do. Because it required me going back through my past and relive experiences I would have much preferred to stay as a lost memory. To fully express exactly what I was going through when being raped, or being beaten by the men in my life was not easy. I believe the most challenging portion of the book to write was about my brother's deaths. Digging through old newspaper articles that explained explicit details of how my brother was murdered took months to put pen to paper. However, I realized that every time someone new would cross my path and I would minister to them I was constantly referring to stories in my book about my testimony and how I overcame my adversities. I knew I had to stop procrastinating and finish the book. I have laughed, cried, walked away from the project to only return realizing I had to give God the glory for everything I made it through. I know the book is anointed because many have stepped up to the task of assisting me with editing, only to find themselves under spiritual attack and they walked away. It has been such a wonderful feeling being contacted directly by readers, expressing how my book has and is blessing them! Now that makes all the work, tears, joys and sorrows it took to complete the book worth everything I went through to write the book.
