Look and Listen
Biography
Jabari Williams is a former student athlete who chronicles his life changing experiences playing for an ambitious coach who would do any to win, including recruiting players out of prison. In his semi-autobiographical novel Williams returns to the small town where he grew up to play for the coach he thought would help him realize his dreams of basketball glory. But being on this team was like being thrown into a pack of wolves, where only the most cunning and devious could survive the season. Williams, a California native, went on to work in the field of I.T.; he specializes in Apple computers and works for a creative advertising agency in Atlanta, GA.
Inspiration
When I graduated from high school, I was excited to go back to my hometown to play basketball for a local college there, and be in an environment in which I was familiar. However, little did I know that my decision would cause me to experience many disappointments, and be subjected to an unbelievably chaotic and often hostile environment. My experiences were so traumatic that while they were still fresh in my mind I felt compelled to document them in a personal journal. Later the journal was formatted into a book titled A Pack of Wolves. The information contained in this book should serve as an eye opener. I hope it will also encourage colleges and athletic programs throughout the United States to work towards the common goal of educating, shaping and pointing young lives in a positive direction, rather than establishing winning as the ultimate goal.
