J. M. Purcell
I write stories set in the 12th century that deal with the themes of of the times: loyalty, honor, religion, and betrayal. Not macho, not romance. Real people. Real history.

    Biography

In my life, I have been a soldier, an offshore sailor and charter cook, a whitewater kayaker, a sea kayak reviewer, a business analyst, and a massage therapy teacher. These days, my interests are focused on dog agility (I run a Doberman Pinscher), home improvement (where my talents are dubious), gourmet cooking (I haven't killed anyone so far) and, of course, writing, an addiction I can't seem to outrun. I am at work on my first novel.

    Inspiration

My biggest inspiration comes from reading. That sounds easy to say, but really, I had no choice. I was corrupted to the habit at an early age. I blame my parents. I was an Army brat. I didn't complete an entire school year in the same place until fifth grade, when my dad got a four year tour in Germany. By then, my answer to life was to seek refuge in the library, where I found the works of Sir Walter Scott, Joseph Conrad, William Rice Burroughs, Alexander Dumas, and Shakespeare. They are guilty, every one of them. They contributed to my downfall. I was stuck, wasn't I? What could I do? I mean, let's face it, Gunsmoke re-runs in German don't quite cut it. Though there is a hilarity factor to hearing Festus shout, "Achtung!" Picture this: here I am stubling about the world with a head full of musketeers and Ivanhoe, getting dragged from castle to palace by my tourist-mad parents. Something had to give. I started writing my own stories. Now I can't stop. Parents - warn your children!
