Hill Kemp's Capitol Offense is a book that I couldn't put down until I finished. Like just about every good fiction read, Capitol Offense takes the reader down a completely different path from what you might think on the last couple of pages. I'm hoping Kemp has another book soon!” * IN an equally gripping sequel to Capitol Offense, Kemp takes readers on another white-knuckle ride even deeper into the heart of Texas. Inspiration
I saw something that scared the hell out of me. I had to tell the world. * I was privileged to have a unique point of view when George W. Bush, Karl Rove and Paula Hughes set up for the first time as Texas Governor in 1995. As a lobbyist and former state rep I knew the Texas legislative process. As an experienced organizational consultant, I knew how organizations form and operate - what makes them tick. * I watched as the new Bush governor's administration demonstrated a set of values - its organizational DNA - in the first weeks of the legislative session. I was impressed. Then, to my shock, those core, foundational values were changed and sometimes reversed just a few weeks later. I watched this “principles du jour” throughout Bush's time in Austin and now see it played out tragically on the world stage. Capitol Offense is my attempt to show the dangerous, amoral nature of the Bush/Rove leadership and how it might be changed. * MY first attempt at writing, five years before, was inspired by a story, which played like a video in my head over a several day period. I wrote that story in 300 pages and I would not have read it myself. I then took a university night course in writing and, starting with blank screen, wrote the story again. It had no heart. Finally, on the advice of my philosopher daughter, I tried a complete other tack. That resulted in a manuscript, which gifted to me a part of my life I had lost, still bringing tears when I read it. It has never been published, but I've gained tremendously from it. Writing has become a vital part of my life.
