40 years in theatre, 30 years in teaching, 20 years writing, and now publishing my first novel.
Biography
Brought up in a logging camp with no electricity, I learned storytelling in the traditional way: at my father's knee. I went to the University of British Columbia for more years than most people would admit to, and gained a few degrees and certificates and a lot of great experience along the way. After freelance theatre work for several years, I settled down to teaching (Kindergarten to Grade 12) and raising a family in Prince George, B. C. Semi-retired now, I live in Tsawwassen (near Vancouver). I direct a seniors' Vaudeville troupe, give workshops to teachers, teach ESL in Korea one month a year, and write, write, write. Having decided to self-publish, I am now going to promote, promote, promote. My lastest fun job was a Medal Ceremonies Supervisor for the 2010 Winter Olympics.
Inspiration
As a child, I was inspired by English children's writers like Enid Blyton and Arthur Ransome. I studied English Lit. in university, and was inspired by almost none of them, except Jane Austen. I still list Pride and Prejudice as one of my favourite books. I have always read SF and Fantasy as my escapist reading, and was particularly drawn to Anne McCaffrey's Pern series and Terry Pratchet's Discworld series. I have read a lot of Piers Anthony, but get very tired of puns after a while.
