Fred Phillips has put his body on the line for the ideas he writes about. In his 25 years as a corporate and university executive, Fred has also become well-known as a teacher of Zen martial art.

Biography
Fred has spent most of his life in Austin, and played a leading role in that city's transformation into a major center for technology and music. Later, at Oregon Graduate Institute, he built the Northwest's most admired management degree program for high technology leaders. He is now building the Marshall Goldsmith School of Management in San Diego. He is author of the textbook Market-Oriented Technology Management: Innovating for Profit in Entrepreneurial Times, author of Social Culture and High-Tech Economic Development: The Technopolis Columns, and Senior Editor of the journal Technological Forecasting & Social Change. Dr. Phillips holds 5th-degree black belt rank in aikido, and has taught this art around the world. He splits his time between San Diego and the Dutch city of Maastricht, and returns to sweet home Austin whenever possible. He blogs at consciousmanager.blogspot.com.
