    Biography

I was born and raised in small-town Kansas. I was the sixth in a family of seven kids and early on, I struggled in school. But, life was simple and few temptations got in my was. Finally, to my parent's delight, I completed college and went on to medical school at the Univeristy of Kansas. After 13 years in the Navy, I returned to Southern California where I practiced medicine for the next 36 years. During that time I began to write and sold a number of magazine articles. I also wrote, published and distributed two newsletters for physicians. On retiring in 1996, I began writing fiction for the first time. This led to publishing my first novel, Moonshine Harvest, a story based on my misspent youth. But, one book isn't enough for everything I did. I am in the process of writing a sequel. Three years ago, I was diagnosed with pre-symptomatic Alzheimer’s Disease. If you met me you wouldn’t know I had a problem. I am the earliest diagnosed case my doctor has ever seen. My blog is at www.thetripover.com. Come visit.

    Inspiration

“Tell us a story, grandpa.” How many times have I heard that appeal? I glory in the adoration. Now, embellished considerably, I’ve included some of those well-tested yarns in my novels. Colored by a significant time in history and flavored by the rural folks that people it, my stories appeal to young adults as well as the older set. They enjoy reading about the setting and intriguing characters of that time. These stories are fashioned after Huck Finn or To Kill a Mockingbird. Born and raised in small town Kansas, I have written and published a great deal of non-fiction during my medical career. I was twice sited in the Medical Economics Magazine’s annual Physician’s Writing Contest, wining the grand prize in 1983 and second place in 1985. My first novel, Moonshine Harvest won the Editor's Choice Award at the 2005 San Diego State University Writer's Conference and an Honorable Mention at the 2005 San Diego Book Awards.
