    Biography

I am very excited about sharing my experiences to help others. I am publishing my first book "The Conversation That Matters Most" through Amazon-CreateSpace within the next 3 months.I have a Bachelors Degree in Applied Mathematics and more than ten years of civil service with New York City. I am interested in healthy discussion, teaching and public speaking, cinematography, and music. I presently live in Staten Island, New York with my wife and children. I am in the final few stages of preparing the book cover, interior design, and page layout. Although nervous, and anxious I am finally stepping out of my own head and into the literary world. My book focuses on rethinking our approach to success when things haven't gone as planned. It highlights the need for healthier conversation with others but more importantly yourself. Healthy conversation meaning innocent, sincere, without cynicism and bitterness, really aimed at solutions instead of more problems. It has been a challenge at times, writing a book (as this is my first) but it definitely has been rewarding and enjoyable...like you knew this was something you had to do. It has been a very healthy process. I've grown as a person, developed my own voice, and continue to look for new channels in which to learn and connect with others.

    Inspiration

My inspiration for writing first came from my two fathers. My father Robert and my father-in-law Dionisio are pleasant gentlemen. They are unwavering in their care and commitment to their family. I couldn't ask for better role models. I am honored to carry both their names Velez and Rowe. I am DeWitt Velez-Rowe as I currently write under the name DeWitt Rowe. Another tidbit, besides being estatic about my wife, it's sounds really cool saying Mr. and Mrs. Velez-Rowe. For a long time I struggled with purpose and what my place in history would be. Coupled with the need to define that purpose, although never an issue helping family and friends, I found that strangers appreciated my help even more. I also found it weird that I'm always being asked for directions when out in public. If I could show others the way, then maybe I could do the same for myself with writing. I amplified the voice inside my head and wrote, and wrote, and wrote some more. My writing helped me grow, cleanse my mind, reclaim my innocence, and helped me to stop looking to others for appreciation and made me more at peace with myself. I've always wanted to show my family the world but since I've started writing I know that's only one stop along my journey.
