Biography
Have since 1980s written magazine music criticism as "DC," covering rock'n'roll and related styles - punk, rockabilly, r&b, hillbilly. (Credits include bylines in Goldmine, Blue Suede News, No Depression, Rock&Rap Confidential, and others). Also have for years published newspaper political opinion pieces as "David." (Des Moines Register, Waterloo Courier, Iowa City Press Citizen, Cedar Falls Times, Green Pages.) Was Iowa Green Party Media Coordinator (2000-2004), and Ralph Nader's Iowa Coordinator in 2004. This last included some national campaign press release and fact sheet writing. Have been organizationally active in Eastern Iowa, participating in pro-civil rights and civil liberties efforts. Am currently CD/DVD Review Editor for Rockabilly Magazine, and still freelance both music criticism and political opinion pieces. Also, I now write a regular "Letter From America" column in English online rockabilly magazine Crackerjack. Lastly, I have recently completed my first novel (retro sci-fi/humor). And am seeking publishing opportunities. Hobbies? I've been playing guitar since the 1970s (I now have 2 electrics).
Inspiration
My mother, children's book author Jean Russell Larson (Palace In Baghdad, The Silkspinners, The Glass Mountain, Jack Tar, The Fish Bride); my brother, Iowa performing guitarist Rick Larson. Also, L. Frank Baum, Curt Siodmak (1940s screenwriter -"House Of Frankenstein"); political writer Alexander Cockburn and music writer Dave Marsh.
