Inspiration
"Twenty-five years ago I was given a book on dragons; big, slick and full of artwork, it documented the history of fantastic winged creatures in cultures all the way from ancient Sumeria to 18th-century Europe, from the British Isles to China. From that point on, I became obsessed with learning everything I could about dragons; after some twenty years of research I developed my own theory on these fabulous beasts. Their existence, habitat, and eventual extinction provided the background for two books of short stories, based on age-old myth, legend, folklore... and my own imagination. A lifelong reader, I progressed from murder mysteries to tales of the occult, from best-seller novels to classics, from history to anthropology, mythology, fairy tales, and ultimately fantasy. When I decided to write a novel, I enrolled in a class on short-story writing just to kill time. That was twenty years and two books ago."
