Biography
Barbara Watkins was born on October 6th 1959 at the Missouri Delta Hospital in Sikeston Missouri to Jackie Dean and Betty Lucille White. She attended Sikeston High School where she met and would later marry her childhood sweetheart Jim Watkins. Wasting no time they started a family. At sixteen they had their first son Steven, at nineteen Jerry, and at twenty-two last but certainly not least their only daughter Amanda. Times were difficult for the young couple both struggled to make ends meet. Barbara worked as a waitress, medical records keeper, and later helped manage a quick oil lube. As a young child she loved to write poems and continued to do so over the years. It wasn’t until her late forties that she began to take her writing seriously. At an early age she experienced what she called strange phenomena, which later inspired her to write her first novella, Behind the Red Door published in 2005. In 2006 she published her second novella, Thorns of an Innocent Soul. Both novellas received rave reviews from her peers as well as the public. Mrs. Watkins loves to write psychological thrillers with a supernatural twist. She has written several short stories and is working on her first full-length novel entitled, Voices From Within. When asked about the possibility of becoming rich or famous she replied, “There are several definitions of what being rich and famous means, true I may not be famous but I feel rich in knowing God has given me the creative ability of storytelling, and with time I hope to perfect it into a great novel.” You can learn more about me and my work at my new web address, www.barbarawatkins.net
Inspiration
I've always been a fan of psychological thriller's and stories that involve the supernatural. Strange and unexplainable events has surrounded my life since I was a young child. When I was young I started a journal that included some of my worst nightmares and later began to incorporate them into short stories. After reading my first Stephen King book I knew what I wanted to do, write.
