Biography
Barbara Howell is the author of Splinters: The Pain, The Passion, The Point, published in March of 2009 by Paige1Publishing. Before picking up her pen to write her tales, Howell owned and operated Southern Ladies Showcases, a business that specializes in hand-crafted custom display cases to fit every collection and hobby. Originally birthed in Tennessee, the business also has a location in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. Semi-retired from the production side of things now, Barbara focuses on telling her triumphant story of success that overcame all odds. Barbara's entire life has been defined by diversity. She was wife, mother, grandmother, farmer, cosmetologist, before finally becoming a carpenter. Rising to the top of a man's profession, Barbara didn't allow handicaps, personal tragedy or financial devastation to stop her. She persevered and today her display cases are in homes and businesses around the world. Barbara continues to do light travel and splits her time working in her work shop in her hometown of Lawrenceburg, Tennessee and her shop in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.
Inspiration
My book is about my life. What I am and who I am have been shaped by the events and the people around me. Dealing with a severe handicap and then becoming a carpenter at the age of 55 was not something I had planned for my life. But it happened. My message to those that are facing tough circumstances is to keep your chin up and remember "It's Not Over 'Til It's Over!"
