Biography

I was born and raised an Iowa farm boy, but one with his eyes turned outwards to a larger world. I learned to read from my father's stack of sci-fi pulp magazines, and have been writing since my early teens. My life has been shaped by my service as an Army officer, as a corporate manager, and as an independent businessman. My vision of the future is optimistic, but grounded firmly in human nature. I envision a future based on a libertarian Galactic civilization, but one with a dark side - unlike many views of mankind's future, mine has dark alleys, dangerous places, and lurking enemies. I believe we should look at the past to understand the future, and you will see that reflected in my work.

My favorite writers include Isaac Asimov, Robert Heinlein, James Blish, and Tom Clancy.
