If in one book I can make you laugh and make you cry, then I've done my job... 50% of my royalties go to Derian House Children's hospice.
Biography
I live in Lancashire with my wife, Alison, and three house rabbits, Dusty, Smudge and Brandy. I currently manage a day service for people with profound and multiple disabilities. I have a first class honours degree in English Literature and Theology and a Master of Philosophy degree in Biblical Criticism, for which I wrote a sixty-thousand word thesis.
Inspiration
I feel that the combination of my academic background, combined with twenty years experience in the world of the caring professions, has put me in a position where I can write a unique novel. In the mid-1980s I helped people to move from long-stay institutions into the community. 'Tasting the wind' is set against this background. It is a tribute to the indomitable spirit of those who survived such places and a warning against replacing them with smaller versions of the Victorian originals. Hopefully it is also a moving, amusing, entertaining and thrilling read.
