Biography
I have been a psychiatrist for more than 32 years and a community activist and author in my leisure time. In the eleven years since my daughter left home to start university, I have had more time for my activism and writing and have just published my first book. For the past decade, I have been concerned that humanity faces a grave crisis. Obviously global warming and the looming extinction of the human species is the most serious concern. However even more urgent to me is the fact that citizens of western democracies seem to have lost control over their elected governments. There no longer seems to be a single country on the planet where voters' concerns trump corporate interests. As a result, all governments seem paralyzed to address our looming economic meltdown, a rapidly warming planet and worldwide food shortages. The crisis in democracy seems so urgent that I have recently left my job at the hospital to focus full time on community organizing.
