Gay teenager Danny Bowman is being molested by his mother's boyfriend...and the only person who can help him is sinking into a fog of dementia.
Thirteen year old Danny Bowman has always seen his grandmother as a haven from his alcoholic mother and the stream of violent men she brings home. Now Danny's grandmother has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's. She scarcely recognizes him anymore. She has deserted Danny just when he needs her most. He is coming to terms with being gay, and his mother's newest boyfriend, Mark, has begun approaching him sexually. Danny has always been confident in his ability to endure abuse, but as Mark drags him deeper into a web of physical and sexual brutality, Danny's thoughts turn from survival to self-destruction. If he is to find the strength to defeat Mark, he must dig deep into his family history and his own psyche. And he must do the hardest thing of all: take a chance on trusting another human being just one more time.
