After a series of busted blind dates, Tessa Dennison, a N.J. finance exec takes love to task with the help of the Internet and Justin Martin, her best friend and secret admirer.
Mismatched, set in suburban New Jersey and New York's Wall Street, tells the story of Tessa Dennison, an African-American early-thirties finance professional who dominates in her professional life, takes love to task after a series of busted blind dates. Her scheme includes incorporating a leading Internet dating site and the perspective of a male friend, which reveals that love's been brewing much closer to home for years. Justin Martin, her Caucasian best friend and co-worker, has been secretly in love with Tessa since childhood. However, the risk of damaging their strong friendship, their differing ethnic backgrounds, and the possible conflict of an interracial love has prevented him from pursuing her. But it's now or never when she convinces him to screen Internet bachelors for a love match. Will Justin let societal forces push him to let go of his dream woman or will he express his interest before Tessa finds a cyber match? Is Justin too firmly planted in the 'friend zone' to advance into Tessa's dating portfolio? Add some creative blind dates intended to make Tessa squirm, a meddling self-righteous mother, a womanizing frat brother, a lesbian sister, a crazy drag burlesque show, and a professional secret Justin is trying to keep and you have a dating game like no other.
