Description

I wrote this guide for others who are going through a heart by-pass, and also for their dear ones. It is written from a patient’s viewpoint. When I was faced with having a bypass, I searched Amazon and bought five different books on the topic. Three of these turned out to be the same book under different titles and publishers. None of the books, which were all written by medical professionals, was a great deal of use. This was because none of the people who wrote them had gone through a bypass operation, and so they had little idea of what the patient, himself or herself, actually experiences. When I use the word ‘experiences’, I mean both the physical and emotional side of having a heart bypass. The intensity of the experience and its results are the nearest most heart patients will get to a rebirth. It’s like ‘new body for old’. Sud-denly the automatic, so well-known pain of exertion is gone. You realise that you’ve been impaired through coronary insufficiency for much longer than you had imagined. You may possibly undergo religious or other types of spiritual ex-periences. You will certainly not be the same again.
