Description

"A CRITICAL History of Hypnotism: the UNauthorized story" was designed to both dispel two centuries of myths and, for the first time ever, reveal the reasons WHY this phenomenon, which has so much potential to benefit mankind, has instead always had such a terribly negative image among both the general public as well as most health-care professionals. Although it's a scholarly work (distilled from over 500 ancient and modern references in English, French, German and Dutch), I nevertheless took great pains to write it in a breezy, "reader-friendly" style so that it would actually be enjoyable to read, and would appeal to the "intelligent layman" and college students (not necessarily the same...) as well as professionals. Only time will tell if this was a brave, or a foolhardy move on my part, for scholarly/academic books are invariably written in a rather tedious style (in order to give them an aura of greater "gravitas"?). Although the initial reactions have, so far at least, all been wildly enthusiastic, my highly unorthodox use of dark, sarcastic humor (wherever appropriate) is sure to upset certain of the Powers that Be in the hypnosis community; because I've neither spared anyone's feelings nor pulled any punches in this quest to reveal the shamefully appalling level of ignorance and incompetence that has characterized the (mis)use of this phenomenon since its discovery by Mesmer more than two centuries ago. But why take MY word for it? You can read a number of chapters for FREE that I've made available on my website: www.historyofhypnotism.com. All that will be required of you is an open mind, and a healthy sense of humor...
