Short Book Review: (300-500 words)
Lillie Ammann has written a fantastic book that really reaches out to you and pulls you in. I felt like the main characters were great friends of mine, and I really related well to them. The story line was wonderful, and kept me guessing throughtout the entire book. The beginning of the story was a little slow moving, but quickly picked up the pace and captured my attention. I also really enjoyed the fact that religion was involved in this story. I've noticed that many authors stray away from religion in order to keep readers interested in their work and to not offend anyone. I was pleased that this author included references to God and used it in a way that a reader wouldn't be bothered by it, religious or not. I felt that the ending was a bit abrupt, and could have included a lot more action. When I got to the part where the main characters are trapped and being poisoned by gas, I started to suspect someone else of the main murder. I think it would have been appropriate for the author to go another direction during that moment, to keep the reader guessing and determined to keep reading. I also thought that the ending was a bit unrealistic, with the two main characters agreeing to marriage after only a few weeks of knowing each other. Despite what they both encountered throughout the book, I feel that this is a bit hasty and unrealistic. I would have been happier if the author had ended it with the two main characters beginning a more conventinal relationship. I would have liked to know more about what happened in their lives from that point forward as well. All in all, this was a great read. The author kept me interested and kept me guessing. I look forward to reading plenty more from this author in the near future!
